We send heartfelt Christmas greetings to all our friends and family who may be reading this little poem.
A Special Christmas for Anne
Images of Joy, Sorrow, and Gratitude
This Christmas morning, the snow hushes the world,
each flake a soft promise on our window ledge.
Light spills across the kitchen, gold and fragile,
where you stand steady, hands cool on your mug,
your laughter rising, thin and bright, above our inner torment.
The trees from our window seem smaller this year, last leaves trembling,
but we thread garlands with the grace of memory:
silver, burgundy, a thousand glimmers of what we’ve had and held.
We savour clementines, peel curling like the days
that slip between your fingers, bittersweet and sharp.
Carols linger in the air, half-remembered, half-prayer,
your voice tracing each note – strong, then faltering.
We speak quietly of priceless gifts, of what endures:
warmth tucked into splintered conversations, the hope in words that sparkle
then fail again.
Our friends bring laughter, bagels, and Christmas cake;
their kindness a buoy in this rising tide.
And at night, when quiet settles, we give heartfelt thanks
To our sons, to our friends and neighbours, to our doctor, nurse, and support workers;
And to our gentle volunteer.
To every soul who keeps us afloat in this our deluge,
All for you, Anne, standing tall,
in the hush of a Christmas like no other, luminous still.
