Anne has always been non-compliant. Since the onset of her cancer, she is just non-compliant about different things.

Before being stricken with incurable glioblastoma, she was non-compliant when confronted with certain social and political norms and strictures.

Now she’s non-compliant about sitting still.

You see, when she stands up, unaided and unmonitored, she begins pitching about.

And instead of walking, she staggers.

She reels.

She lurches, weaves, sways, and flounders.

These mobility constraints don’t deter her from insisting on tidying up, on placing objects in their proper place, on attempting to make a clean sweep of things.

How terrifying it is to watch her riding for a fall.

Anne has always been non-compliant and she’s non-compliant still.
