Anne Listens to the Ethereal Music of Ludovico Einaudi
In the hush of evening’s slow retreat,
Anne drifts on gentle piano tides;
Notes unfold like soft blankets, tracing memories
over the contours of her quiet room.
Every chord holds a breath, a promise,
spilling light into corners where fear once gathered.
Einaudi’s music enters her, not as distraction, but as anchor,
something steady while the world dissolves at the edges.
Her eyes close, and for a moment she rides the melody,
unburdened, unafraid, each key a gentle invitation:
memory, hope, surrender twining in the air.
In these final measures, she finds herself held,
mesmerized, cherished, eased forward by every luminous note.

Ludovico Einaudi – Live From The Steve Jobs Theatre / 2019 (Official Concert Film)
For Anne, Ludovico Einaudi’s music appears to generate a delicate tapestry of emotion and atmosphere, weaving together minimalist piano melodies with shimmering layers of subtle orchestration. Each note seems to float softly through the air, perhaps evoking a sense of longing, hope, and introspection that gently washes over her like a moonlit tide on a quiet lake.
His gentle melodies and their emotive simplicity may offer a sense of calm and comfort that’s especially soothing for someone with brain cancer, helping them to feel grounded and at peace. I’m guessing that the repetitive and meditative qualities of his compositions may also provide a welcome escape from anxiety or pain, creating a mesmerizing effect.
She’s certainly charmed!

Einaudi’s compositions are profoundly expressive, capable of stirring deep feelings and painting vivid landscapes in the mind, creating a serene yet poignant soundscape that lingers long after the final chord has faded.
When listening to Einaudi, Anne is illuminated, her face revealing a preternatural animation.
I’ve learned that a wide range of music has a remarkable power to stir and captivate individuals living with brain cancer or dementia, offering moments of comfort, joy, or even nostalgia amidst their challenging journey. Whether through a gentle melody or an energetic rhythm, music can trigger memories, evoke emotions, and provide an uplifting escape, creating a unique connection that transcends words and brings light to difficult days. This emotional resonance no doubt helps reduce stress and perhaps fosters hope, making music a cherished companion throughout their experience.

And it’s clear that when music therapy is initiated, “it’s different notes for different folks.”
In this regard, check out the work of Oliver Sacks and the film Awakenings, both of which I’ve written about in relation to the situation of my dear Anne:
