Birthday Elegy
For Friends and Family: Many thanks for your kind birthday wishes
I gather your wishes, gentle gifts that arrive
like sunlight warming winter’s silent ground.
On this birthday, each word you sent glimmers
with kindness that softens edges of sorrow.
Anne, my beloved, sits near, her eyes bright
though the storm of illness clouds our horizon.
We walk together through this thinning season,
where time narrows, and the tender roots of hope wither.
Your voices are lanterns, steady through dusk,
holding us close against cancer’s cold cruelty.
In your care I find solace, in your empathy, strength,
each message a thread, weaving us together.
Thank you for standing with us in the dimming light,
for showing how love endures, even as we say goodbye.
