What you don’t see: The invisible realities of living with and caring for a person with a brain tumour
Believe it or not, we’re approaching May, which is Brain Tumour Awareness Month, and the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada is launching a national campaign called “What You Don’t See.”

Brain tumours impact every part of life in ways that are often invisible, cognitively, emotionally, financially, and socially. This campaign is about creating space for those realities to be seen, heard, and understood.
The Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada is inviting the community of caregivers of people living with or felled by brain cancer to submit a short video completing the sentence:
“What you don’t see is…”
This can be something personal, something difficult, something powerful, or something we wish others would better understand.
Here is how I responded to this invitation.
This is my text:
“What you don’t see is the constant battle my sweet, adorable wife Anne fights every day: struggling to remember words, manage overwhelming emotions, and cope with the impending, yawning abyss.
Friendships and family ties are tested in ways we never imagined. Ours is a journey shaped by invisible burdens that touch every aspect of our lives.”

If you feel like keeping track of Anne’s cancer journey, I’m chronicling it in prose and poetry here:
